Courtney Meaker is a freelance writer, dramaturg, and director in Seattle. Her theatrical interests include feminist and queer performance theory, movement-based ensemble projects, devising new work, and queering Shakespeare.
Her play BUCKSHOT will be produced with Macha Monkey Productions in the fall of 2013 (directed by Peggy Gannon) and her play Chaos Theory, a play seeking order will be produced by Annex Theare in April 2014 (directed by Pamala Mijatov). She ‘s also a writer for the second season of Seattle-based webseries WRECKED (credits on episodes one, two, four, five, and six) produced by Honey Toad Studios. Additionally, she writes about theatre for The SunBreak.
Recently, she’s acted as dramaturg and assistant director at Macha Monkey on Stephanie Timm‘s Sweet Nothing performed at Annex Theatre in June 2012. She’s directed for Stone Soup Theatre’s Double XX Festival a new work by Deborah Yarchun called Streakers which performed in April 2012. She directed her play, Apocalypse Soon for Ghost Light Theatricals Battle of Bards. She also dramaturged for The Skriker and Vengeance at Sundown with Ghost Light Theatricals. She assisted in workshopping Amanda Aikman‘s piece Peregrine Sonata performed at Driftwood Players and worked for Seattle Shakespeare’s Wooden O in the summer of 2011.
She taught theatre to high school-aged students at the Putney School Summer Program for two summers, assisting Kali Quinn, Rosalie Purvis, and Julia Perlowski as well as teaching her own classes in Ensemble Improv and Writing to Change the World.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Creative Writing from Knox College in 2008 and was awarded the Linda Elizabeth Karger Award for “demonstrated exceptional theatre ability” that same year in recognition of her production of Vinegar Tom and ensemble and text work with an eight-member cast of Hamlet.
